Exterior - Houses & Feeders: Our feeders are handcrafted with the finest of materials that can withstand all types of weather.  The roof is made of cedar and will age naturally, but to bring a fresh look back to the shingles, wash using a mild detergent with a little chlorine bleach added (maximum 10% solution).  Some of our customers like to apply linseed oil to the shingles.  It is a safe and natural preservative, but allow it to dry before returning the house or feeder to its post.

Interior - Bird Feeders:  As needed, make sure that you take a few minutes to clean and disinfect your bird feeders.  This can be done with mild soap and water and a small amount of chlorine bleach (maximum 10% solution).  Allow the feeder to fully dry before putting in more food.

It is also recommended that you only put in enough food so that it will all be eaten in two or three days.  This will help prevent the accumulation of wet and molding seeds that may contribute to disease.

Finally, you may want to have two or three feeders in your yard or garden to accommodate different feeds so that you can simultaneously attract many different varieties of birds.  (Click here for more information on types of feed.)

Interior - Bird Houses:  Once a year, in the fall after nesting season, remove all debris from the house and clean it using a stiff-bristled brush. A mild soap and water may be used if needed. In early spring, check the house again to remove any seasonal debris that winter may have blown in. Note that the bottoms of our houses can be removed for easy cleaning.
